The Department of Foundry Technology was established in the year 1996 to cater the man power and R & D development to local foundries. The need for-specialized foundry technicians was felt in late 1990's when the small and medium foundries in Coimbatore started coming.

This laboratory consists of practicals for testing the mechanical properties of materials such as hardness, tensile strength, impact test, shear strength and machines for testing springs, which will be very useful to the students understand the inter relationship between the properties.
Foundry sand testing laboratory is equipped with necessary equipments to conduct test on foundry sands properties. The major equipments are tensile testing machine, flowability test, AFS test, shatter index and permeability test.
This lab houses 35 networked computers having the operation system such as Windows 7, Windows XP (Service Pack 3). These systems are installed with the modelling softwares such as Pro-Engineer (V5.0), AutoCAD 2014. The Casting Simulation is also installed and is used to simulate the Casting Process.
This Metrology lab is equipped with various instruments, gauges and machines for measurement. The major equipments in the laboratory are Optical Profile Projector, Tool Makers Microscope, Surface Roughness Testers, Concentricity Tester and Mechanical Comparator.
This laboratory is provided with all the necessary equipments needed for viewing the various microstructural phases present in the metal and its alloys using metallurgical microscope. Heat Treatment process provides the microstructural modification of metal and alloys to bring the required mechanical properties by heating, soaking and cooling the metal in the muffle furnace.
