After securing admission at the Institute and starting your stay here, you may face challenges like academic concerns, social pressure, and feelings of loneliness or stress. Our team is here to support you emotionally, socially, and academically. Don't hesitate to approach us for help.
Starting at the Institute brings many changes. You may feel a lot of parameters around you are different. You will have more responsibilities at the hostel and at the academic level. Take heart, you are not alone. Common issues that many students face initially include academic concerns, social (family and peer) pressure, feelings of loneliness, low confidence, anxiety, stress, anger, and sadness. These pressures, if not addressed, can lead to poor performance both academically and personally.
To help you stay focused and happy, we encourage you to approach us for any problem—academic, emotional, social, or financial—without hesitation. Counselling offers a safe space where you can unburden yourself without fear of judgment, criticism, or assumptions. Confidentiality is strictly maintained, allowing you to talk freely.
Counselling provides an opportunity to learn to make better choices, improve interpersonal skills, develop confidence, and enhance educational effectiveness. In a one-on-one meeting with a counsellor, students can explore and express feelings, examine their beliefs, reflect on patterns of behavior, and work toward making healthier and happier changes.
Students commonly seek counselling for a variety of concerns, including but not limited to: transitioning to new environments, uncertainty about values and goals, academic pressure, difficulties with new academic patterns, personal relationships, family concerns, grief and loss, stress, depression, anxiety, lack of motivation, and concentration difficulties. Recognizing and addressing these concerns early can greatly improve your academic and personal experiences.
Individual counselling provides a confidential and pressure-free environment to discuss your concerns. Counsellors respect your problems and will help you explore different options, make choices, and work to reduce your difficulties. If necessary, they can also intervene with the right people to provide additional support.
Appointments are available from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM on Thursdays. Sessions are typically 45 minutes long, depending on demand. Students can schedule an appointment here.
For cases requiring precise diagnoses, we conduct psychological assessments administered by trained psychometricians. These assessments help identify the best possible intervention to support the student’s wellbeing.
The Wellness Centre organizes workshops and events on topics such as managing stress, time management, and addressing relationship issues. These workshops are tailored to meet the specific needs of students and provide practical strategies for handling challenges.
In addition, events are held on occasions like Mental Health Day, International Happiness Day, and World Suicide Prevention Day. These events aim to raise awareness and promote mental health within the campus community.

Hello, I am a diploma student who was struggling with a very personal issue. I felt like I had a persistent problem bothering me. When you are focused on academics, and suddenly external distractions or peer pressure arises, it can derail your progress even temporarily. A similar situation happened to me. Some people would say, “Do you really need help for such a small matter?” But I knew myself better. Even small problems can build up if ignored, just like a sore throat can’t always be overlooked.

It is a common myth that counselling is only for people who are very disturbed. In fact, counselling can be helpful for any person who can think, feel, and behave appropriately most of the time but sometimes may require help to enhance, develop, change, or improve their condition. Students, working professionals, and parents may seek counselling for different issues.
Counselling is a continuous process, based on your needs and goals. Typically, it could last anywhere between 4-20 sessions. The counsellor and client decide together about the time of appointment and the number of sessions. Usually, they are 40-minute sessions, on a weekly basis.

This is an extremely important ethical guideline for a counsellor where no information can be disclosed to another person without your consent. Anything that is bothering and distressing for you is serious enough for us. So do not worry about whether your problem is serious enough to seek counselling. Many students seek help for their personal, relational, familial, academic, and identity-related concerns, such as those related to being a gender-sexual minority, religious minority, and so on. Seeing a counsellor is about making a positive choice to get the help you need. The sooner you do that, the better, so that minor issues can be resolved quickly and not grow into more serious concerns.
Yes. In accordance with standards of professional practice, the counselling center maintains records of the clients seeking the service of the center. Counsellors make notes about sessions.
